Best Workouts For Women – Bodyweight Exercises Are The Best Workouts For Women
Have you ever wondered what are the best workouts for women? What types of workouts will give you strength, shaping, toning, firming, flexibility, and the results you are really looking for, all while being safe and convenient? Now, I am not suggesting to you that there is a holy grail of exercises or anything, but I am convinced one type of exercise trumps all others.
I am a big proponent of bodyweight exercises, and I feel they are the best workouts for women. In fact, I think they are fantastic exercises for everyone, but some people who are looking to get Arnold Schwarzenegger huge would disagree. Most people don’t want to be that “huge,” but want to gain muscle, strength, tone, and have a healthy and fit looking physique. And bodyweight exercises give you all of that and more. That is why I believe that the best workouts for women are bodyweight workouts.
Here is a sampling of some core bodyweight exercises:
Push-ups are a great way to exercise your chest, shoulders, and arms. They also exercise your abs, back, and legs, as well as a variety of other stabilizer muscles. Give them a try in the traditional position or do them with your knees on the ground (when just getting started), and experience for yourself all the different muscles being exercised. As far as the upper body is concerned, push-ups are one of the best workouts for women.
Crunches are a fantastic way to isolate and exercise your abdominal area. Crunches are similar to sit-ups, but they isolate your stomach muscles better. Simply lie down with your back on the floor and your legs (bent at the knees) in the air. Cross your feet at the ankles, cross your arms on your chest (with each hand on opposite shoulder), and attempt to sit up by moving your torso and head toward your legs. Slowly go up as far as you can, and then slowly come back down. (Tip: Don’t come down all the way…this will allow you to keep constant tension on your abs and get the best results). Crunches are one of the best workouts for women to strengthen their abs and obliques.
Squats are great bodyweight exercises and one of the best workouts for women to strengthen their legs. They isolate the major muscle groups of your upper legs and butt, as well as a variety of stabilizer muscles. The

basic squat can be done by standing with your feet shoulder with apart, with back straight, head looking up (not down), hands behind head, and, keeping your weight centered over your legs with your heels on the ground, slowly bend at the knees until your upper legs and butt are parallel to the ground. Hold that position for a moment and then slowly return to your starting position.
Lunges are another exercise that really gets results. Start in a standing position with your feet just slightly apart. Keep your weight well-centered so you do not lose your balance. Take a long stride forward with either leg until the knee of your opposite leg barely touches the ground, hold position for just a moment, and shift your weight backwards, returning to your starting upright position. Then repeat with your opposite leg. This will really target your thighs (front and back) and your derriere.
Squats and lunges combined offer on of the very best workouts for women to shape, tone, and firm up their lower bodies, which is often an area that most women really want to target and makeover.
Now remember, this is just a sampling, but if you do these 4 exercises at least a few times a week, mixed in with some good stretching, and making sure to get your heart rate up by spinning, jumping rope, running, or just by doing two or three sets of these 4 exercises in fairly quick succession, you will start to see nice results.
Here are some of the keys that make bodyweight exercises the very best workouts for women. They are completely safe to do, unlike the use of weights which can be hard on the joints and frame of the body, and are regularly the cause of both minor and serious injuries. This is the biggest reason that I believe these types of exercises offer the best for workouts for women (and men, for that matter).
Bodyweight workouts can be done any time and anywhere. They are very convenient whether at home or out of town. You don’t need special equipment, just your body and a small piece of floor or ground to do the exercises.
You can do these exercises and your workout in the privacy of your own home. Gyms are notorious for being meat markets, where you have a never-ending audience of people gawking at you and guys hitting on women. Most people just want to get their workouts in and head home.
Gyms, weights, equipment, etc. all cost money, and that can add up very quickly. And, due to the above factors, a lot of people don’t even make good use of a gym membership…and it becomes just a big waste of cash. Exercising with bodyweight will only cost you the effort it takes to do them.
And the bottom line is bodyweight exercises get fantastic results. And that is really what you are after. So, I will say it again, I am convinced that bodyweight workouts are the best workouts for women. But, as with anything, you need to take action. So get started with some of these basic exercises, and build up to others over time as your fitness progresses.
Author’s Note:
Am I suggesting that you should never use weights or any other type of resistance (other than your bodyweight) training? No. In fact, I use weights (limited lbs.) in my own training at times.
The important thing when using weights is safety. Weight training is notorious for causing injuries – accidents, too much stress on joints, injured backs, etc.
I personally like bodyweight exercises because they are safe, convenient/practical, they get very good results – even the most basic of them – and all the other reasons mentioned above. And, for most women, bodyweight exercises will give them exactly what they want – strength, tone, shape, firm lower body – and that is why they are some of the best workouts for women.
All that being said, there are plenty of good weight/resistance training products and programs available; even some I would recommend. If you decide to go that route just make sure to take every precaution.
